the foot of the world famous Cheddar
Gorge within the charming
village of Cheddar, this is an ideal holiday retreat!
Cheddar caves fired the imagination of JRR Tolkien. author of ‘Lord
of the Rings’ trilogy, who came here on honeymoon in 1916.
The caves are just 300m from the cottage which is situated next
to Frank's Restaurant and opposite The
White Hart, a quiet village
pub popular with walkers and cavers.
Cheddar lies
in the heart of the Mendips, an area renowned for walking and beautiful scenery.
The nearest beach is a 25 minute drive. The Clarks Village Outlet shopping
centre is just 20 minutes away. The historic towns of Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury & Wells
are also close by and much of the West Country is easily accessible.
Locally there are many activities on offer including cycling, mountain biking,
go-karting, fishing, golf, horse riding, quad biking, dry slope skiing, tobogganing,
rock climbing, abseiling, caving - not to forget tasting the local cheese and
cider!
The Bays Farmhouse is a 130 year old
property. Furnished February 2007 and equipped to a high standard,
the accommodation retains character features and the comforts of
a large four bedroomed holiday cottage.
There are two doubles and two rooms with zip and link beds that can be made up
as doubles or as twin beds. The two front bedrooms have views looking up towards
the Gorge, one has ensuite facilities. A small TV is in the larger bedroom. There
is a family bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and WC. There is a separate
WC downstairs. Well equiped kitchen with cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer,
washer/dryer, and microwave. Dining room. Lounge with TV, DVD, X-Box, and a gas
'log' burner. There is a further reception room which has a TV, bed settee to
provide facilities for two further guests.
This leads to the conservatory and the enclosed rear garden with BBQ facilities.
There is a front garden and parking facility for four cars at the side of the
cottage. The large lockable garage can be used to safely store bicycles etc.
Dogs are welcome by arrangement. Bed linen, electric and CH included.
If you want to relax and not spend your holiday cooking there are several take
aways within easy walking distance, including Chinese, Indian, Pizza, Thai and
a traditional chippie. There are seven pubs in Cheddar, most do food and three
are very close by. There are several restaurants including the newly opened Shahnaz,
a 140 seater Indian restaurant with a wine bar.
Baby sitting can be arranged if booked in advance.
